This program recruits graduates from the Associate Degree in tourism that come from college universities in Costa Rica.
It prepares professionals that are able to plan, manage and assess potential tourist spots and projects, considering sustainable development in the community.
The program lasts four semesters and comprises five areas:
- Ecology and environmental management: ecology, environmental problems, environmental management, labor and environmental health.
- Social sciences: equity and social participation, labor relations, seminars on philosophical, historical and Costa Rican studies.
- Planning: tourism planning, project design and assessment, quality control.
- Business administration: accounting and finance, merchandising and entrepreneurs’ development.
- Complementary subjects: human formation centers, English, oral and written communication, culture and sports.
Professional profile
Graduates of Sustainable Tourism Management may work in any of the following areas:
Private sector
Professionals in this field can plan, manage and assess all tourism-related activities; therefore, they may provide advisories, launch or improve projects.
Public sector
With the skills obtained, graduates can develop and evaluate tourism policies, programs and projects, thus providing consultancy and supervision in such activities. Professionals in this area have the necessary tools to design the strategic planning needed to enhance destinations, resources and tourist activities for tourism companies, national planning organizations, and research and education centers.
Community
At a local level, professionals foster the development of the community. Local governments, non-governmental organizations and other community groups may use this knowledge to plan, manage, assess and follow-up tourist activities and their social and environmental impact.
