Course of dramatic arts
 
Introduction

The activity of Dramatic Arts is an introduction to the world of theater. During the semester, the student will make theater, along with his/her schoolmates and will see and read theater with the intention to get to know his/her personal possibilities in the art of acting.

Objectives
 
•  To make the student familiar with acting skills and the personal experiment of theater-making.
•  Reflect on the sense of art in the daily life.
 
Activities
  The area of Drama has activities and groups at its assets, with the intention to stimulate the pleasures of theater in the institutional life. The area counts with a semi-professional group that realizes assemblies of pieces of universal repertoire that perform theater presentations inside the ITCR and in different communities in the country, as an extension program. At its turn, it brings professional theater performances to be enjoyed inside the campus. Furthermore, it imparts short courses of relevant subjects and according to the institutional interest. The arts of movie are also a part of this area. They project movies on a large screen, to be shown to the students and officials of the university. 

Course of Musical Arts

Introduction

We all have had contact with music because it is present in our lives in various ways. Appreciating it, or to make music allow to develop our sensibility, favors the quality of life.
 
Objectives
 
•  Appreciate the different music manifestations of the past and the present.
•  Should be aware of the stimulation that music, produced in Costa Rica, deserves
 
Activities
 
•  Exhibitions, auditions and analyses of different kinds of music 
•  Concerts
•  Projection of music videos
 
Social Interaction Course
 
Presentation
 
Social interaction is exercised from the person itself and in constant and permanent interaction with the society and the culture in which he/ she lives. From this point on, the values that respect the human being are created and developed.

 
Objectives
 
To offer the student the opportunity to get to know his/ her social and cultural surroundings in which he/ she extends, from a personal point of view.
 
Activities
 
Participación en espectáculos, videos, charlas, giras, diapositivas, música, poesía y proyectos. Todo ello guiado por una metodología muy dinámica y participativa con mucho trabajo en grupo.

Participation in shows, chats, trips, music, poetry and projects and view videos and slides. All this is guided by a very dynamic and interactive method, with lots of group works.

Visual arts course
 
Introduction
 
The area for Visual art searches to explore the sensitivity and ideas of the student’s life experience that allow him/ her to develop his/her creativity, including diverse techniques or concepts on visual arts and its possibilities. All this in a typical language, that makes the students transform from a passive consumer to the state of a creator with active criticism in it’s social-cultural complex.

Objective
 
Stimulate the imagination and creativity with a critical opinion.
 
Activities
 In the course, systematic experiences of what is creating will be observed, strengthened by knowledge of visual arts and situations of historical context, in help of:
 
•  Movies and slides
•  Chats and discussions. 
•  Creative groups projects
•  Visits to expositions
 
Cultural Dynamics
 
Introduction
 
The course for Cultural Dynamics provides the student the opportunity to make a journey trough the different cultural options that the Cultural Division offers. During the semester, the student will enjoy obtaining experience in every matter, at its turn extending his­/ her knowledge and familiarity in the different fields of arts and culture.
 
Objective
 
The course allows the student to recognize the relations that are established between society, culture and art from a humanistic perspective, with a constant relation with nature. Furthermore, it allows the student to distinguish the main elements and characteristics that identify the different artistic manifestations in the society.
 
Activities
 
El curso se realiza utilizando diversas metodologías y técnicas de enseñanza, que incluye talleres artísticos proyección de audiovisuales, charlas, simposios, visita a museos y vivencias artísticas, personales y grupales.
The course is realized by using various methods and teaching techniques, which include artistic workshops, audiovisual projection, chats, symposium, trips to museums and artistic experience, in groups and individual.

Dance
 
Introduction
 
Dance is born with the human being, with the need to be able to express one’s feelings, emotions, and, above all, the wish to be able to communicate with others and one’s environment. Dance is not only expressive beauty, it’s also a discipline that is shared with the students who practices it, to the sensibility, humanization and health.

Objectives
 
During the semester, the student will achieve to coordinate different parts of his/ her body, with a specific rhythm and in a specific space.

Activities
 
Projection of videos, chats and live-presentations during class. Furthermore, popular dances like the bolero, salsa, meringue and other dances are practiced.
 
Literary Criticism 

Introduction

Literature is the voice of humans, it entwine them with symbolizations, it fascinates them with harmony and with information. Studying literature is not only to know one’s history and to learn its precept. It is, above all, participating in an experience in which the esthetic pleasure and the critical comprehension are filled out to give special knowledge to the world.
 
Objective
 
Establish the relation between literary art and society with the aim to go deeper into the knowledge of both realities.
 
Activities
 
• Oral lecture and commentary on fragments that represent literary works.
• Forums about encountered theater.
• Analysis with basic philological methods of short plays. 

 Sports Unit


Athletics
 
In this course the students are shown the basic techniques of the different events of which athletics exist nowadays: track-running (sprint, long-track, middle distance, transition/ changeover, hurdles and steeplechase); jumping events(high jump, long jump and triple jump) and throwing (impulse, launching discus and javelin). Furthermore, some topics of sports nutrition are treated, exams to diagnose and know the level of physic ability and some recommendations and activities for the improvement of it. It also includes Sports Orientation, given it’s narrow relationship with long-track and short-track running.
 
Basketball
 
The course consists of understanding, practicing and improving basketball by joyful and fun games. We work by practicing the fundaments and the apprenticeship of the rules. Open games, games during the training, or also ´free game´ are realized by the exercises or training of techniques

Baseball and softball
 
Is one sports-option more for the students and offers the possibilities to increase strategies and games that can contribute to the advance of intellectual creativity. This is why exercising baseball or softball, adds to strengthening the future profile of a professional. It even gives a different perspective when it comes to the context of the meaning of practicing sport to a person in general and of a professional in particular and to including the possibility to develop in all kinds of ways.

Gymnastics
 
By the improvement of  each of the units in this course, it pretends to make the student analyze and exercise some of the basic agilities, as well as his teaching and helping progress. It insist of creating and organizing promotions and valuating the material as irreplaceable part of his formation. The participant will investigate which movements can be realized satisfyingly and how these can strengthen confidence in oneself and in taking decision, according to a benefit of academic outputs.

Groups games and sports
 
This course tries to be a channel for recreation of students. Wherever he is, he will have the opportunity to be a participant and not a spectator. He can alertly participate in each one of the games and sports, no matter his technical nor physical level. It does not give importance to forming competitive groups that outstand in a specific sports, but to give students the ability to enjoy the games and the ambience of fellowship with his/her schoolmates. In the dynamic of the course, the good social attitude, group work and fair play are emphasized.

Physical Condition

This course puts the students in contact with the most known methods of  physical condition. Supplies the opportunity to accomplish a good physical and mental state, using tests and indications, the actual physical state is diagnosed and the student will achieve an improvement. It is pretended that the student experiments the effects of training, it is to say, the changes produced by aerobic exercises in different systems and organs of the human body. (Kenneth Cooper)

Swimming
 
The course for swimming is designed with the preposition to give students the opportunity to recreate themselves, to learn to swim or improve the different swimming- techniques. To promote its practice by the knowledge of the benefits that report and reach a physical balance with the academic charge students have. Is also tries to give the students tools for surviving in water in case of an accident, rescue swimming and water polo.
